The Transition Chick Blog

Marcia Merrill, The Transition Chick, Career/Life Transitions Coach & Solopreneur candidly shares the ins & outs of starting a business & baby boomer women/midlife women & the transitions they experience! Turning midlife into the RIGHT Life & surviving into THRIVING

I own a business-I don't have TIME to do "social networking"!

I'm a culprit-I used to think that way...I've recently analyzed my ROI, and decided not to renew-memberships can be pricey!  Joining LinkedIn or Ryze or MYSpace is FR*EE.  Blogging is Fr*ee and is also fun-I love to write!

The point is-I'm now concentrating on getting more out of my LinkedIn, adding a MySpace page & putting my expertise on  Internet marketing  & Career Transition "out there.".

Read a networking buddy-Stephen Rothberg's blog-he's an job search expert

To blog or not to...

I am proud to say I took this amazing blogging class & in 15 mins, I started a blog!  Now, I write 2!  Typepad this platform makes blogging easy. Andy's course makes it painless & fun & user-friendly!  Here's my affiliate link to his course on blogging http://andywibbels.com/aff/381307/ezbw
So, my answer?  Yes, blog away!  What do you think?

It ups my sign up list, traffic to my web site & for writer, me-it's great.  I know non-writers love doing short posts sharing themselves & helping, connecting with others.  How cool is that?

In Abundance!

Oh, THAT'S a trackback!

Promised I'd give you the scoop!  Lyle Lachmuth, who talks about creative ways of thinking & shows how joining a group might help an artist's way of processing-check out his blog at www.CreativeCareersUnleashed.com.

In ten minutes,  Lyle explained to me a concept I've failed to grasp countless times!  A trackback is merely a way of telling another blogger you're referencing something they wrote about in their blog!  Duh!

Aren't weblogs cool?  Do you blog?  I accept trackbacks...Hint-Hint!  Comments always welcome!

What is a trackback?

Weblogs or blogs as we know them, aren't very complicated.  I advocate "learning in action" & wrote a chapter in "The Spirit of the Woman Entrepreneur" out in mid-November!

I'm a creative, intelligent, person, but, cannot get this trackback idea down!

Lyle T. Lachmuth, a friend & fellow coach, is going to walk me through this-he's the Unsticking Coach & his site is www.CreativeCareersUnleashed.com  I help boomer women get unstuck, moving forward into action-lessen the sense of "overwhelm" that often stops you in your tracks-"paralyzed by fear"...

But, when it comes to trackbacks-I'm stuck...BIG TIME!

What, then is a trackback? Stay tuned...

What to write?

When folks hear I write many articles, a monthly newsletter & am now, a featured author in Inpiration to Realization-on my web site-www.eCareerCorner.com And will be featured in Spirit of Women Entrepreneurs (pub. Oct. 2006!)    I write on being a Solopreneur & how you learn in action.  And proud author of an e-book, you can now see & buy my e-book on Transitions & some self-tests to help you figure stuff out!  Course, I offer coaching as well.:)

Do I get "writer's block"?  Of course, but sometimes, I'll do something else & clear my head...)

But, sometimes I write about news stories like Steve Irwin's tragic death, or thoughts of clients I've helped or information about some programs I'm doing, other times, I just write long hand-even, if all I write is" I don't know what I'm writing!  It will start to flow... or...?

What do you do to get over writer's block'?  Always open to suggestions! :)

Thanks!

Alafia!

Take care

What are keywords, & why should I care?

Keywords are what anyone who has a web site, blog( weblogs), does online internet marketing or surfs the Net should know!

They are the search terms folks use to find information & services they need.  Why should you care?  Keywords make the difference between being clicked on-visited or not being known at all in the online world.

But, besides,  web site optimizing-using the most looked for terms, you want to look for searched on terms, but, are relatively not out there-so, you've beat the competition!

Here are some tools to help you maximize your 'Net presence. I'll be your "Google" & share what I've found out!

Check out & download the FREE Google toolbar that tells you every site's rankings that you visit.

To find out the best keywords for you, use www.wordtracker.com  You can click on an online tutorial that explains all the ins & outs.  For a few bucks, you can become a registered user for a day or more.

To get feedback on your sales page & how compelling it is...visit www.glyphius.com there's a fee, but it's worth it!

Solopreneur, small business, coaching, Disney World are all keywords.

Can you name ones that are for you or what you do/sell?

What is viral marketing?

Viral marketing is an internet marketing strategy which uses word of mouth to create the buzz that increases traffic or sales from your web site.  Any entrepreneur or any small business would love this kind of free advertising!

Those videos or games or snowball fight emails everyone loves to forward!  They're viral!

Snakes on planes is just the wild thing to be viral.  Three internet gurus, one, Rob Schultz of Audacious Audio, and Andy Wibbels-a great expert on weblogs-blogs& Michael Port, who is an amazing entrepreneur, all have used this  movie as an example.

Folks are talking-even my blog is doing it...Wish I'd thought of it!

True confession time!

Time to 'fess up.  I'm not perfect!  Yes, I am a small business owner-a solopreneur & proud of it!

A few days ago, took me awhile to commit this to paper-well, my weblog!

I was using a new mic without a regular headset-just a piece you put around your ear.  I use it to speak to my clients who are worldwide and when I teach my teleclasses

I was about to teach my Transitions one.  I was feeling excited, optimistic & energized.  I love teaching, helping my baby boomer women-those midlife women understand & talk about the changes in all our lives.  To give them the tools so they know how to get through any transition & come out with winning results!

Well, I was all set...dialed in to greet my teleclass attendees & welcome everyone to the call.

Before I was connected to the call,I had to scratch my nose forgetting my earpiece & that I was attached!

I almost stangled myself with the mic wire as my phone went skidding away-scattering back and battery in opposite directions. So, I reassembled my phone, reattache and forgot I was connected!  I heard a questioning hello?

Had to laugh & smile!  Anything that can go wrong...but it's what happens next-our attitude determines that.

What happened next?  We had a great class!  True confession-I feel much better now

Wanna feel better-share your embarassing moment!

Take care,

Marcia
