The Transition Chick Blog

Marcia Merrill, The Transition Chick, Career/Life Transitions Coach & Solopreneur candidly shares the ins & outs of starting a business & baby boomer women/midlife women & the transitions they experience! Turning midlife into the RIGHT Life & surviving into THRIVING

Isn't Dumbledore being gay"old news"?

I soo apologize for my absence-I've been sick & writing my book, more later...

Almost a month ago, I saw JK Rowling, read from Book 7 of Harry Potter series-The Deathly Hallows.  Talk about passion for her work-you could see the joy of talking to her fans-answering questions & signing books!
It was a sweepstakes & 2000 lucky winners were allowed to bring a guest to this exclusive event sponsored by Scholastic Publishing-they publish all of the Harry Potter books!  (my husband won a spot & took me!)

But, the media searched for a "scandal"-and they made one out of an innocent question on whether Dumbledore ever had a girlfriend & fell in love?  And (gasp!)  there wasn't one...Rowling said she always saw Dumbledore as gay.  Stop the Presses! :)  For the full transcript-go to www.leakycauldron.com

This started a Media Frenzy!  CNN broadcast the 'news" the next morning!  And just about every TV tabloid/News show followed suit.

Harry Potter Books have central themes of valuing inclusion, diversity & love...guess the media forgot this!

Why write about this "old news" now?  I just heard radio folks speculating & it's still fodder for watercooler chit-chat...

Now, the debate is whether JKRowling should've told this or no...what do you think?  Do you care?

Bartering for time...

Outsourcing & bartering aren't just for the solopreneur.  Baby-sitting is outsourcing.  The dry cleaners is an outsource circumstance-you're not dry cleaning your shirts yourself, right?
I coach midlife boomer women on how to balance work & life-Home, friends, other things they want to do...
could be a new job or career, but, just balance is needed, too.  I can't sell them some extra hours! :)  But, I can help set intentions/goals and move toward life/work balance.

But, we can brainstorm ways to FR*ee up some time...
in no particular order...
1.If you work at home & have small children-have a neighbor who also works from home with kids watch all one day-so you get chance to run errands, see clients, network or take a bubble bath!

2.Trade your PC knowledge for help with lawn care, cooking dinners,-the sky's the limit!  Technology know-how is commendable & tradeable!

So, outsourcing doesn't need to only be for businesses!
Be creative!  What could you barter/outsource?

Transition & tandem cycling!!

I get my best ideas while tandem bicycling (Bicycle built for two).  Besides my coaching, my passion for life is tandemming.  Been riding together with my husband for 13 years.  Going to a rally-about 32 tandems-that's 64 or so people, we leave Thurs & come back late Sun night.
Off to Henderson, NC.

Why tell you this in a blog dealing with Transitions?  Because tandems can be a metaphor for change. And can be one you hadn't thought of-blinders on to other ideas.  Let's examine this closer... You shift gears-have goals(get to end!) and an action plan with easy to follow steps that break it up into smaller parts-(cues-mini-directions turn right, go straight 2 miles...) contact 3 companies, identify 3 things you enjoy doing...list 5 employers to include with job descriptions on your resume...

There are countless ways to think about a Transition-by "thinking outside the box" you get out of your own head.  You take off the blinders & look at it through new eyes.

Transition is a time of change, a shifting of gears in life's journey...

Have you changed gears?  if not.  Would you want to?

What does passion mean to you?

No, I'm not talking porn...passion in the sense of loving what you do!  See, I absolutely adore seeing my coaching clients get that a-ha-seeing the possibilities for happier, more meaningful lives & careers.

I'm at a Career Masters conference in Louisville, Kentucky-middle of US...all the resume writers/coaches I've met really felt a calling & have a passion for what they do!  How cool is that?!

So, are you living out your passion?

Do you buy the Law of Attraction?

Sedona-here's some pictures from our trip to the Wealth & Life Balance Retreat that I experienced in November.  Why think of it now?

Well, cause that was 6 months ago & after a jam-packed weekend of Law of Attraction gurus-folks who'd been featured in The Secret, had financial freedom & abundance & told us we can attract what we want.
So, I made changes, experienced some transitions, was more intentional about what I wanted...

I looked at the clutter in my life and got rid of lots-both physical-like papers & files but, also some old beliefs that weren't serving me.

I also took back some e-commerce resources & heard an internet marketing expert.  The balance of Business & Financial & the holistic/spiritual was a powerful example of what's possible!

There has been fans & naysayers about the Law of Attraction....What do you feel about it?

The Transitions of our friends...

I received an email from a former student-angry that I'd lost touch-she did, too.  But, it's all good-I am not blaming!  Friendships come & go and what once was...sometimes has to change.  The transition from employee to small business owner...an entrepreneur & a solopreneur-makes time even more precious...Friendships are a very vital part of my life.  I want to keep them all & add more!

When my coaching clients are changing, some of their friends change, too.  New ones that support her new outlook...goals-dreams enter & those that don't/can't or won't exit...You won't be able
to say all you wanted to, and mourn this loss.  But, this is a natural & sometimes necessary part of the transition process!

Our lives can be so crazy busy that it seems we lose people along the way.  But, we also gain others.

My supporters/friends are mostly entrepreneurs and encourage me to stretch as I delve into Internet Marketing & eCommerce!

Can we hang on to our friends from a previous life?  I'm not sure.  What do you think?  Please comment!

Why talk of the judge at the Anna Nicole Smith trial?

Been away-had relapse of flu-thanks for your kind emails.  But, I'm ba-ack!:)

I really couldn't believe all the hype surrounding Anna Nicole Smith-not her tragic young death-39!
The custody of her body!  Where she's going to be buried-this trial was all you heard on the news!
And, when the verdict was rendered..well that, wasn't nearly as interesting as the judge's display of "passion"-one "judicial expert" exclaimed.  "never saw a judge behave like that!" another retired from the bench for 20 years, echoed that sentiment...

Puh-leeze!  It seems people forget about the baby daughter Anna Nicole left mother-less!  And the father?  A DNA test will decide paternity.

For now, we focus on the judge, his passion & compassion-should he have broken down in court?  No, I guess not...But, people show emotion at inopportune times-maybe he could've composed himself more... Is he human? Yes.

Is this whole Anna Nicole thing a circus?  Yep.  Some of my boomer women clients are dealing with some tough transitions & following their passion is a good thing-gives a more fulfilling life!

Just had to say that!  Guess my passion is showing?

Celebrated Astronaut, Lisa Nowak transitions into Depends-wearing kidnapper!

I'm in Baltimore, Maryland.  Lisa Nowak was the pride & joy of Rockville, MD-their own native daughter...now, the former Naval Academy grad is an arrested kidnapper!  Talk about a transition!

She let her obsessed passion get the best of her!  I coach my clients on getting over their anger-being fired or divorcing or being laid off...Channeling it in a positive direction not being consumed by it.

Sad that her passion overwhelmed  her...What do you think?

(Been sick & recovering...thought I was better before-this time, taking it slower!)
