The Transition Chick Blog

Marcia Merrill, The Transition Chick, Career/Life Transitions Coach & Solopreneur candidly shares the ins & outs of starting a business & baby boomer women/midlife women & the transitions they experience! Turning midlife into the RIGHT Life & surviving into THRIVING

Information products, what are they & why do I need any...

I had no clue what information products were or even that they existed!  Not unusual.  Whether I'm coaching on transitions or marketing-career-wise...your resume, presentation ie. interviewing & first & last impressions... "selling yourself"!

For the solopreneur, marketing takes on a different emphasis-what can get your name "out there"-let folks be aware you exist!  Get clients, if, like me, you offer services...I can't give you a cup of coaching...But, I can have & do, a book you can buy!  A tangible, physical product!

Information products are tangible...sorta.  It's in that world of internet marketing!  That, now is the world in which I live most of the time.  Several times, in 90 little days, I've completed several information products (info-products to those "in the know") :)

Talk about transitions!  Nowhere in my Business plan, do I have the word e-commerce!  Yet, that's now a big part of my 7 step Marketing Action Plan.  I learned this through my Guerrilla(as in lone soldier, not the ape!) My Guerrilla Marketing Plan, a great class series-Teleclasses.  So now, I market my Get Hired Now! or Hire Yourself! Teleseries differently.  Click here for more info.

You've heard me praising the products class! It's opened my eyes, helped me think of barter, no cost or low cost marketing...

The sales cycle, the marketing funnel-all those concepts eluded me til now.  All I knew was trading my hours for my clients' (mostly midlife women)  my hours for their dollars!  Now, I use automation.  I have a shopping cart system that works when I'm not there or asleep...Check it out here

I still suffer from solopreneuritis-I feel tons of creativity, yet I want to do it all...Automation & outsourcing has given me back the freedom to spend my time coaching and authoring books & doing public speaking...and creating information products-mp3s, ebooks, videos, audios, teleclasses...How cool is that?

Throw away that resume...

Not just yet...but, your resume may not tell the whole story-especially for those dealing with career change.
Yes, I usually blog on Ask Marcia about job searching!

But, a program I do is starting soon, Get Hired Now!  or Hire Yourself!  -Sept. 18th @ 7pm Get Hired Now! Teleseries combines job seeking/business development strategies to accelerate landing a GREAT Job that fits.  There's also on-going support from me & our very small-6  people max.!  I want everyone to get individual attention & feedback.  There's really only 3 seats left for this next one or wait til next year!  Sign up at www.eCareerCorner.com/transitions/gethired.htm

Why talk about this here?  I have many boomer women/midlife women who rely only on online strategies and their resume!  There's so much more!

We create together an Action Plan with daily/weekly easy to follow steps.  I've facilitated Get Hired Now! programs for 1 year & 3 months, I've seen this system of support, guidance & mutual help keep participants on track & not feeling they're all alone in this finding a job "roller coaster"!

Shameless self-promotion?  Yes...But I know Get Hired Now! works!

Lessons we can take away from "Dancing With The Stars"

I love ballroom dancing!  Reminds me of those Fred & Ginger movies & gliding effortlessly as they jumped over furniture, walls, ceilings...Ok, I'm allowed a bit of unreality!

I started thinking about what my coaching clients as well as me could learn from this show...

Here's what I came up with-feel free to add your own...

1. Willingness to step out of their comfort zone-All of the celebrities were open to failing-or succeeding & reaching their goals...Jerry Springer learned steps to dance at his daughter's wedding.  Joey dedicated a dance to his veteran of WWII, grandfather, Mario to his mama, and Emmet, for his family, to name a few...

2. Determination & perseverance-Learning dances with tricky steps & choreography is hard!  Took me 4-6 weeks to learn the rhumba & I still wouldn't perform it in front of a live audience!  Week in, week out, they stuck to it!

3. Passion wins!-  It was clear when all the dancers loved what they were doing & had fun.  They enjoyed it, so we wanted to come along & share in the fun!  Jerry entertained, Mario smoldered, Joey was grinning with joy,..Emmet won the non-football fans with his charming smile & fancy footwork-We could tell he was having a great time!

4. Support matters!  All the celebrities felt the collective energy of the group!  It was positive & the celebrities wanted to do a good job for their partners/choreographers.  One of the most frequent comments of my Get Hired Now! Teleseries is the support & accountability!  "Keeps me on track so I can get my ideal job!"

5. Being held responsible-accountable-The celebrities had a week to learn their next dance.  They'd made the commitment and had to show up!  And, if they didn't, their partners would hold them accountable for their actions.  I run coaching groups-hardly ever have someone not come.  My being there as well as their coaching group buddies makes it much more likely they'll join in.

I've shared 5, now, won't you help me out?

Please share yours!

Beliefs determine behavior, can you change that?

Almost all psychologists, philosophers through the ages...and various career counselors, coaches & this Transitions coach truly believe this.

I've seen it time & again first-hand with my midlife women clients-those baby boomer women, often in transitions-work or life!

My Get Hired Now! Teleseries begins Tues-Oct. 10  www.eCareerCorner.com Whether you hold limiting, self-defeating beliefs...or a conviction that you can succeed has so much to do with what you do...this is a proven system of support & accountability to help you keep going!

If you believe it, you can achieve it!  I truly do believe that-seen it with my clients believing they can change, be more positive & find a career/lifestyle that fits!  I offer 24/7 support & encouragement...but, they do the work & succeed!

Do you think we can change our beliefs?  Why/why not?

I'm looking for women 40s-60s who've experienced any kind of transition, please contact me marcia@ecareercorner.com or comment here!

Being "stuck"-is this true?

I've been in a booth at the Book Festival in Baltimore, MD all weekend.  Many who I've talked with-baby boomer women or midlife women, men, too.  They talk about experiencing now && being in some transition and being stuck.  I say, it's an illusion.  But FEELING stuck is very real.  It's a gut-emotion, not logical, and in my coaching, I hear this all the time.  Not unusual.

Feeling stuck means  feeling like we can't move. Moving forward means action.  Stuck is frozen, not moving forward & often, losing ground!  I provide support and get you unstuck through my Get Hired Now teleseries with a text & action plan-easy to follow, go to www.eCareerCorner.com  and that will explain it all!  Many would be entrepreneurs, often those wanting to be a solopreneur, use this program to stay on track!  Folks who want to be employed or in a job that fits take this 28 days to landing a Job that Fits!

No matter what your stuckness means to you-it truly is an illusion.  We can work it out!  Often, we are overwhemed and do nothing and stay stuck!

I'm interviewing women 40-60+ who were stuck, maybe had a few transitions...please contact me-Marcia 410-467-0811 marcia@ecareerCorner.com

Get Hired Now! (TM) is Getting Closer

Get Hired Now! is not my invention.  Career Coaches, C. J. Hayden & Frank Traditi wrote the text that I'm giving to all those who enroll in my teleseries.  I am a licensee and bring over 18 years in Career Development/Job Search to my teleclasses.

I'm looking forward to doing this again and am rewriting my class outlines to cover the art of networking & more resume critiquing, more in-depth the many aspects of career transitions both for career changers, as well as new graduates and anyone in between.

I read how companies are looking for good employees-both entry-level, but also more management positions and leadership roles.  The 2006 grads want tuition reimbursement benefits, a good salary & exciting work.  They plan to progress, further their education & move on. Employers know that mature workers are stable, willing to stay with a good employer & grow.

What kind of employee are you?  Are you your own "employer"?

What are keywords, & why should I care?

Keywords are what anyone who has a web site, blog( weblogs), does online internet marketing or surfs the Net should know!

They are the search terms folks use to find information & services they need.  Why should you care?  Keywords make the difference between being clicked on-visited or not being known at all in the online world.

But, besides,  web site optimizing-using the most looked for terms, you want to look for searched on terms, but, are relatively not out there-so, you've beat the competition!

Here are some tools to help you maximize your 'Net presence. I'll be your "Google" & share what I've found out!

Check out & download the FREE Google toolbar that tells you every site's rankings that you visit.

To find out the best keywords for you, use www.wordtracker.com  You can click on an online tutorial that explains all the ins & outs.  For a few bucks, you can become a registered user for a day or more.

To get feedback on your sales page & how compelling it is...visit www.glyphius.com there's a fee, but it's worth it!

Solopreneur, small business, coaching, Disney World are all keywords.

Can you name ones that are for you or what you do/sell?

Alafia!

Take care

Get Hired Now! Teleseries begins Sept. 6th!

Sometimes, trying to remember to do it all-for this solopreneur clearly isn't possible!  I forgot to even mention my Teleseries-7 hours of class instruction and a month-4 weeks of Group Coaching-it's a 28 day plan-to keep you on track & in action!  It's called Get Hired Now! Teleseries and I give you the book as my gift!  www.eCareerCorner.com/gethired.htm

Here I am, talking to my Businhess Coach about all I'm doing!  "Did you put it in your blog?"

OOPS-this internet marketing, entrepreneur, transitions expert is wonderful but a tough ride!

My Get Hired Now is more small business wannabes than job seekers.  They use the 28 day program to GET HIRED by themselves!  Very clever!  No need to do all that alone.  Support and wisdom at the asking!

And I want to have an online community so they can share & support each other!  And I'm their coach & they can email me as often as needed.  If interested, visit my web site or tell a friend!

Hurry!  It begins Sept. 6th at 3pm EST!
